Evaluation

During this project i discovered my strengths and weaknesses.

Strength i discovered were

  • Coming up with creative ideas for example the different camera shots we used as we thought it was more effective.
  • Being flexible with each other for example working round our different time tables.
  • Our planning as we went into detail and also evidenced it on our blog through out the project so we didn't forget what we had done that day.
  • I thought that when were working together that we was a good team as we helped each other out and instead of us doing the same thing at the same time we worked on different things for example Harriet would go out and film and i would be in the editing room looking at the footage we had to see if it was enough.
  • I developed more on editing as i wasn't that confident in the start.
  • I thought that we had a good partnership with our client.
Weaknesses

  • I thought we could of been more organised then we might of not had to rush our work so we could of hit the ideas more that our client gave to us.
  • I could of been more professional when it came to work with our client
  • That we wanted more shots with the students working in the classes as it would of made our video more effective. This could of been due to our lack of time.
  • I think that i should of got more involved into the project had more commitment.
Next time i work on a project i would be more organised with my work as the outcome to not doing this we fell behind and had a lot of work to do at once. I would also be more professional when i work with a client as its not fair on them as they are giving up there time for us and we should of respected that more. Also with the organisation we would of made time to more of our ideas so that would definitely be something i would do in my next project.
What i discovered in this project is that i have lots of creative ideas, i enjoy working this way and i am thinking that i would like to do something based on that in the future. I also noticed in this project that my planning is really good and that i go into great detail about how i want things to be but in this project i didn't follow it through which next time i will.

We showed our finished product to our client and Sarah said that she really liked our video and i asked some questions:

  • what do you think we could improve on?
Sarah said that she liked the video and the only couple of things she would of done would of been put a list of courses in the video and to have more of the beauty side of it instead of the hair side. And the music that we used was really calm and she said she liked that but that is more beauty more than hair as beauty it is more relaxed and hair is more manic as in the environment they have. So i came up with an idea that we could do separate videos for example we would to a promotional video on hair and then another one for beauty but we would join them together so the could loop on the television.

  • do you think we promoted oasis well?
Sarah said that we did promote oasis really well and she is very pleased.

  • what do you think our strengths were making the video?
Sarah said that our strengths were the ideas we used for the video for example the camera angles we have used. And the use we made of the new salons showing them off as they are modern and up to date.

  • how do you intend to use this video as promotional material?
She said that she was going to put it on the television in reception and distribute the video to schools so the pupils can watch it.

  • will we need a budget for that?
She said that was a good question and yes we will she is going to work it out and how many copies she wants then she will get back to us.

Proposal Final Idea

Mine and Harriet's final idea was to was to produce a promotional video for the hair and beauty department for our client Sarah Pratt. In our promotional video we decided that we should film the hair and beauty students while they are working on their clients which we know we need permission for. We also thought of having me and Harriet in it giving information about the section of the block we are in as hair and beauty are obviously different courses. Also in the video we thought we would have some of the teachers in our video so they can tell us about what you get out of the course for example grades, jobs and also if you could stay on a higher level of the course.
They would also tell us why they think students or mature students should study hair and beauty at Penwith College.
Also our client Sarah Pratt wanted us to show off the new equipment, facilities and the great view we get in our brand new building. So we planned the best shots we could use for example close ups and wide shots.
These shots will show the rooms well like our client wanted, we also wanted to show how bright the rooms are and how open they are so once again the wide shot would work really well.
We choose the video because we thought this would be the best idea to promote the Hair and Beauty section and they can also put it on the Penwith College website or even on the plasma television they have on that bit of the college.
We have to think of how we are going to attract people to watch our video, we thought that if it was all talking then people would not sit down and watch it so we thought we would just put bits of us talking just to still give them information but not a huge bulk of it at once. We have to think about what we could say which is not a lot yet it is giving the audience enough for them to think about joining the course. Our target audience we are trying to attract is 15-19 students and even mature students, so we have to get it right because we are targeting two sets of audiences and the promotional video has to attract them both.
We have decided that we would use a camera with a tripod as we want it to be still and we didn't want to use a hand held camera as it would be shaky and we thought that would not look professional. The reason we thought that the video would be the best idea to our other ideas was because we thought it would be more effective and more people would take notice of the promotional video. We also thought it would be better as we could put it on the Penwith College website so when people go on it the video would be there instead of leaving booklets in reception which people rarely take notice of. I think that me and Harriet will do well in this as we are interested in Hair and Beauty and we will know what we would want to see in a promotional video to get us on the course so we could use our knowledge in that to put in the video that we are creating.

Target Audience

The audience we was targeting with our promotional video was a variety of people really from students leaving (16-17) school to mature people (20-30) that want to get a job or even just do it because they like it. The majority of the people that do the course are girls but we didnt just base the video around girls as some boys may want to do the course and we dont want them to feel that is it only open to girl/women.

Some of the Colleges old Booklets

Here are some of the front covers and a page inside the booklet to compare them all and see how they have changed.

This booklet for Penwith College was for 1999/2000. I think this design is really simple and just really boring, but the colours are bold.

This is one of the pages inside the booklet once again very simple and there some pictures but there off clip art not actually students in the college.

This booklet was for 2002/2003 i think the cover is really boring and there's just no point in the cover, it hasn't got anything to do with Penwith College.

This is inside the 2002/2003 booklet this time it has got pictures of the college and the students inside.

This is the booklet for 2004, its really different and it stands out but i still think its boring especially if they are trying to attract young people to the college not many young people are going to find this interesting.

This is inside the 2004 booklet, it is the most interesting booklet when it comes to inside the actual thing as its colourful and there are pictures.

This is the 2010 booklet, i think this is a good cover as its bold and the font is really good also there are students on the front cover which it involves them into it as we are part of the college.

This is inside of the booklet the design is really modern and funky and i think it appeals to young people.

Polarizing In Photography

Suitable filters for weather photography

Landscape photographers use many types of filters, some being very expensive. Luckily, with weather photography you don't need many kinds of filters. Often, only a polarizing filter is sufficient. In fact, a polarizing filter is all I use for my photography, except for photographing the sun, with which I use a neutral density filter.

Filters such as warming filters or gradient filters are little useful for weather photography. Since you don't need to see detail in the foreground at all in weather photos, gradient filters are not required.

One other type of filter that may be useful is a UV filter, simply because it will protect the lens surface from being damaged. But keep in mind that any filter will add extra reflecting surfaces to the optical path through the lens and camera.

Polarizing filters

There are two types of polarizing filter: linear and circular. These filters work the same way in that they filter out light of a certain polarization. A circular polarizing filter is useful for SLR cameras that use a mirror when light metering. A circular polarizing filter consists of a linear filter and a circular polarizer after that, to make the light circularly polarized and therefore its intensity won't change after subsequent reflections. If in doubt which one to use, use a circular polarizing filter.

In this picture the sea has been polarzied you can see the difference as the picture on the left is dark but the on the right is a nice blue.

Budget and Health & Safety

Me,Jibbz,Sam and Joe were in a group and we had to come up a budget and the health safety if we were a makeup team for the next Avatar. We came up with quiet alot of ideas we decided that we would need:
  • contact lenses
  • blue body paint
  • makeup
  • facial creams
We said that we would want quiet a decent wage as we are doing alot of work over 10 years so we decided to have 4,000 a week between the 4 of us. For Health and Safety reasons if we were in a hot environment we would need water as the people would get dehydrated.
